Wooden Spoon Carving, Saturday, February 1st, 12-4pm

In this 4 hour class students will be guided through the basics of spoon carving and the safe use of spoon gouges, hook knives and straight knives. We will carve a medium spoon (and cheese knife time allowing) and discuss tool sharpening, material preparation, and how to make lasting & functional hand carved utensils. Spoon carving offers a great introduction to woodworking, touching on many fundamentals of the trade including grain direction, material strength, and handtool woodworking. 

All materials and tooling will be provided for use during class.

Annalise Rubida is a fine furniture maker from Port Townsend, Washington. She loves combining machine and hand-tool woodworking practices and is just as happy with a drawknife as she is a table saw. With a background in fine furniture and chairmaking, Annalise's own work focuses on functional and sculptural pieces that bring joy to use. Her goal in teaching is to create an environment where people have the guidance and comfort to experiment with new concepts and grow their love for woodworking.
